It’s really a matter of personal preference. From a nutritional point of view, you’re right….fruits and vegetables that are frozen shortly after being picked retain about as many vitamins and minerals as freshly picked and eaten fruits. Just make sure that there aren’t any other added ingredients (salt, sugar, sauces, etc.) that contribute additional calories, sodium, or fat.
The most important thing for most of us is to eat MORE fruits and veggies – of either kind! Fortunately, it’s easier than ever to get your fruits and vegetables at restaurants these days – through salads, side dishes, and even entrées. To add more fruits and vegetables to your diet dining out:
- Look for menu items containing fruits and vegetables when you eat out
- Ask for (extra) lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, etc., on sandwiches, extra cabbage in burritos and tacos, etc.
