Denny’s: The Perfect Family Restaurant

Healthy Food

Over the years, Denny’s has been my go-to stop for quick, early morning breakfasts, leisurely weekend brunches, lunches, dinners, road trip pit stops and late night pie and coffee with friends.  These days, it’s my perfect family-friendly stop where the classic diner food is good and fast, the coloring crayons are plentiful and there are plenty of healthy choices for all of us.

Armed with some distractions for the kids, my husband, the kids and I ventured out before the 4h of July festivities for a spur of the moment breakfast at our favorite local Denny’s.  I’m always excited to find and snap pictures of the Healthy Dining logo at our participating restaurants, so you can imagine how fun it was to see a Healthy Dining “Certificate of Recognition” as soon as we walked up to the door – and the Kids LiveWell logo and HealthyDiningFinder.com on the kids menus (before the kids got started in with the crayons!).

There are plenty of Healthy Dining choices

on the Denny’s menu for every meal and every taste.  I like the Banana Pecan Pancake Breakfast with fresh bananas and the nutty, slightly gooey sweetness of pecans cooked into the whole wheat pancakes (large enough to share, depending on your appetite and health goals).  For something more savory than sweet , try the Fit Slam® with an egg white, spinach and grape tomato scramble, plus two turkey bacon strips, English muffin and a side of fruit.  If you’re stopping by for lunch or dinner, try the Fit Fare® Sweet & Tangy BBQ Chicken, Veggie Burger with Balsamic Vinaigrette and Fit Fare® Fresh Veggies or one of the numerous other Healthy Dining menu choices.

The kids haven’t been forgotten at Denny’s, either.  Kids LiveWell choices include the BYO Jr. Grand Slam with OJ for breakfast and the Spaghetti with Apple Juice for lunch or dinner.  My kids like eggs and breakfast so much, I think they’d eat that Grand Slam for every meal – giving them plenty of lean protein and fruit-powered energy to keep them (and hubby and me) running the rest of the day!

Denny’s has locations nationwide, so next time you and the family are in the mood for classic American fare, check out all the choices they have to offer.
