Have you heard? It’s National Farmers’ Market Week, and we couldn’t be happier! What a delicious piece of life to celebrate—fresh and flavorful food straight from growers and local culinary artisans. Back in July, Secretary of Agriculture Thomas Vilsack proclaimed the week of August 4-10, 2013, as National Farmers Market Week, citing the important “contributions farmers make to daily life in America.” We hope it’s the first of a very long and tasty tradition.
So, if you haven’t already, find your nearest farmers’ market and get celebrating by trying new fruits and veggies (plus all the other available goodies, like nuts, locally raised meats, freshly made jams, hummus, breads and more) for your health. Here are just a few reasons, thanks to Fruits and Veggies More Matters, to make the most of the fresh and flavorful fruit and vegetable choices at your local farmers’ market:
- Quick, natural snack
- Low in calories
- Nutritious AND delicious!
