Ahh one of the world’s most sought after sweets… the donut. Fried dough, topped with sugary icing and sometimes stuffed with cream or jelly. Definitely not waistline-friendly. Although it’s perfectly fine to indulge every once in a while, transforming the donut into something a little more health conscious can help take the guilt out of this treat.
Start by leaving these cakes at the donut shop (there’s a reason you won’t find them on HealthyDiningFinder) and heading back into your own kitchen. Look for recipes (like the ones below) that feature at least one of the following food groups: fruit, veggies and whole grains. Incorporating these foods into your donuts allows you to include additional fiber, vitamins and minerals into your diet. By baking donuts at home, you get to avoid all of the unnecessary fat that donuts soak-up when they are deep-fried. We even whipped up our own batch, to taste test of course! Happy baking!
